Gung Hay Fat Choy!
Hey, so I know it’s been a while now, but on Saturday February 9 the “fearsome four” traversed to Chinatown in downtown Los Angeles for the Chinese New Year parade. It was awesome!
The first leg of the trip was a journey on the Metrolink train from Claremont to Union Station in LA. From there, we hopped in a light rail train to the Chinatown exit. There were so many people for the parade; it was absolutely crazy! I took quite a few pictures, which I’m including below.
Dragon head
The streets, sidewalks, everywhere were all covered with massive amounts of confetti. It must have been a mess for the street-sweepers.

Well, I’ll probably bog down people with a slower connection if I post all of the pictures here, so you’ll have to open the full article to view the remaining pictures.

How could you have a parade without Mikey Mouse?

This blew me away. I guess LA has a mounted Sheriff’s posse of some sort. Probably trained more for crowd management than anything else.
The cool Southwest Airlines float. It was very shiny and even had people inside.
It was packed! Everywhere you looked was like this.

…JC Penney is coming along for the ride too!
Some of the people crossing the street. The parade looped around the block, so people from up the hill (where the parade had ended already) were walking down the hill towards the train station.
The giant “Superior” Rooster!
Ironically, this store is located IN Chinatown…
Smoke rising from the street up ahead as people light off massive amounts of firecrackers.

After a long day downtown, it was nice to rest on the Metrolink back to Claremont.
